2020-2021 Season Announcement
I am thrilled to introduce our new 2020/2021 season and I invite you to support us now to ensure the season’s success. 2020 has been a rough year and that’s especially true for those of us in the performing arts community. Many of our colleagues have had their life’s work put on hold indefinitely with companies canceling entire seasons and offering no support to the artists.
Our reimagined 2020/2021 season is crafted with not only health and safety in mind but also with a focus on what we still have: connection with the community, access to the work of countless amazing living composers, and commitment from our collaborators.
The season will open on December 15th with our first-ever commissioning project, featuring three outstanding composers of color who are creating new works specifically intended for remote and distanced performance. Tickets are now available on a pay-as-you-can donation basis HERE.
Next, Bonsai Bermudez, founder of Chicago's Youth Empowerment Performance Project (YEPP), will lead an online rehearsal process of Steven Serpa’s these wings are meant to fly for our annual Faulty Systems event, Feb. 5th and 6th, 2021. This year's Faulty Systems is subtitled "Speaking Out," and will highlight the joys and traumas of LGBTQ+ life in the 21st century.
Finally, we conclude with the premiere of Tony Manfredonia and Aiden Feltkamp's Ghost Variations (May 2021). The production is still under construction as we hope to create a new production model that feels like a live performance while flexing to COVID-19 guidelines.
We are committed to making the best possible new opera in the best possible new formats. Together, with your support, we can make this season a fun ride!
